A Little About Us
Hey, I’m Gary!
I’m a Scottish wedding photographer and filmmaker based in Shotts, North Lanarkshire, right in the heart of Central Scotland.
I’m married to Rachael, and together we’re the husband-and-wife team behind GJ Photo & Film. We’re also parents to our wee girl, Ellie-Mae, who certainly keeps us on our toes, and we’re getting ready to welcome a baby boy in December. So life in our house is about to get even busier!
Although you’ll often find me behind the camera, Rachael is very much the real gaffer around here! She keeps the business running, photographs her own weddings and regularly joins me as a second shooter. Between us, we’ve built a business we’re incredibly proud of.
We photograph and film weddings across Scotland and Northern England, with most of our weddings taking us throughout Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayrshire and the Lothians. We’re always happy to travel further afield too, even internationally!
We’re a small, family-run team, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Our Approach
The biggest thing for us? We want you to actually enjoy your wedding day.
We don’t want you spending hours away from your guests or feeling like you’re constantly being told where to stand, where to look or what to do. We’d much rather see you having an absolutely brilliant time while we get on with capturing it.
Our approach to wedding photography (& videography) is a good mix of natural, candid moments and something a little more creative.
We love the genuine stuff. The laughter, the reactions, the moments between people and all the things you might not even notice happening on the day.
But we’re equally happy getting a bit more creative. We love editorial wedding photography, gorgeous light, dramatic locations and photographs with a bit of attitude. Romantic and timeless? Absolutely. Stylish and a little boujee? We’re up for that too. Fun, quirky or slightly edgy? Even better!
We’re not photographers who stick rigidly to one style. Every couple is different, and we think being adaptable is a huge part of what makes us good at what we do.
Some couples are completely comfortable in front of the camera, while others would rather be anywhere else! Either way, we’ll work with you to make sure you’re comfortable, enjoying yourselves and getting photographs that you’ll genuinely love.
Proudly Hybrid
Hybrid wedding photography and videography is a huge part of what we do, and something we’ve become particularly well known for across Scotland.
We’ve now captured over 350 weddings using a hybrid approach, so it’s fair to say we’ve had plenty of practice!
If you’re not familiar with hybrid wedding coverage, it’s essentially having one person capturing both your wedding photographs and film throughout the day.
It’s not about trying to photograph and film everything at exactly the same time. It’s about having the experience to know which moments work best as photographs, which are worth filming and how to bring everything together afterwards.
For our couples, it can mean fewer cameras, fewer people, a consistent style and a more relaxed experience without having to choose between beautiful wedding photographs and a cinematic wedding film. Depending on your plans or venue, we will recommend a second shooter if required, or of course you can add one on!
Of course, we also offer dedicated wedding photography and videography packages, so whether you’re looking for photographs, film or a combination of both, we’ve got options to suit.
Keeping Things Personal
One of our favourite things about running GJ Photo & Film is getting to know the couples who book us.
We’re not a big company with different departments or a team of people you’ve never met. When you get in touch, you’re speaking directly to us. When your wedding day comes around, it’s us turning up with the cameras. And when your photographs and films are ready, we’re the ones who’ve spent the time editing and putting everything together.
No outsourcing, no passing you between different people. Just us.
We’re pretty laid-back, always happy to have a chat and more than willing to help with questions, advice or the odd wedding-day dilemma.
We also believe in being upfront about things. That’s why you’ll find our wedding photography and film packages, along with our prices, right here on the website. No awkward conversations just to find out whether we’re within your budget!
Ultimately, we want you to feel comfortable having us around on one of the biggest days of your life. We’ll happily have a laugh with you, get stuck in when needed and know when to take a step back and let the day unfold.
